Monarch is a hamlet (population 220) in Lethbridge County, located on Highway 3A, about 23 kilometres northwest of Lethbridge. The village of Monarch is at the confluence of the Oldman River and Belly rivers, about halfway between Fort Macleod and Lethbridge.
Monarch was a village from 1913 to 1939. The area lies on 50 metres of glacial till deposited by the great Ice Age glaciers that left the area about 11,000 years ago. To the south is the Milk River Ridge very near the US border.
