The Niagara River drops 99 metres (324 ft) and is one of the world’s greatest sources of hydroelectric power. First harnessed in 1893, it now generates 2 million kilowatts of electricity at Sir Adam Beck Niagara Generating Station Nos. 1 and 2 and, just across the Niagara on the American side, the Robert Moses Niagara Power Plant generates another 2.4 million kilowatts of electricity. Guided tours cover the history of the region’s power development as well as the facilities. Purses, Bags and Backpacks will not be permitted on the tour. Admission: Adults $$

Enjoy the thunder of the waters from a completely different perspective by visiting The Journey Behind The Falls attraction, accessed from the Table Rock House Plaza beside the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. Take an elevator and a tunnel to the observation platform at the base of the falls. The tunnels extend only 46 metres (150 feet) behind the waterfall, so there is not a lot of walking. Explore on your self-guided tour at your pace. Protective rain gear is included in the cost of admission. Open Year Round: October-May : 9:00 am – 5:30 pm; June-September 9:00 am-10:30 pm. The powerful diesel-engined boats take visitors to the base of the American Falls and then on to the basin of the magnificent Canadian Horseshoe Falls.
