Grapes gwoing in Prince Edward County

The Prince Edward County region has over a dozen vinyards, wineries, cideris and breweries that create unique beverages. You are welcome to take a tour, and visit their shops afterwards (samples may only be served, and alcoholic beverages may only be sold to those 19 years of age or older).

The growing season is as long as the Niagara Region, but the winters are colder. Vineyards are next to Lake Ontario, which has a moderating effect on the air temperatures. The earliest winery in the area was the Noxon Vineyard in Allisonville, which won a medal for its wines at the 1876 Philadelphia Expo. Cabernet Sauvignon vines have been growing here since 1980; Vidal since 1992; Pinot Noir since 1995 and Pinot Gris since 1996.
