Cherry Valley, PEI

Cherry Valley is a small rural community located in the eastern part of Prince Edward Island, with scenic beauty, rolling hills, and forests.

The first land grants in the area were given out in the 1760s  to settlers of Scottish descent. The community grew and prospered through the 1800s and was home to several sawmills, gristmills, and woolen mills, and factories.

In 1838, the community played a role in the Upper Canada Rebellion (when a group of rebels led by William Lyon Mackenzie attempted to overthrow the British government in Upper Canada–now Ontario–and establish a representative democracy). Those rebels were defeated, but some of them managed to escape to Prince Edward Island. They were welcomed by the local residents of Cherry Valley, who provided them with food, shelter, and support.
