Tryon is a small community located in Prince County on the western side of Prince Edward Island, a short distance from Borden-Carleton.
Before 1810 the area was largely covered in dense forest, and the first European settlers cleared the forests to create fertile farmland. By the mid-1800s, the community grew to include several sawmills, a grist mill, a tannery, and a blacksmith shop.
During the late 1800s, Tryon became an important transportation hub, with a wharf and a railway station. The wharf was used to ship goods such as lumber, potatoes, and fish to other parts of the island and beyond. The railway station, which was part of the Prince Edward Island Railway, connected Tryon to other towns and cities on the island.
