Port Hill and Bideford are neighbouring towns named for two similarly situated towns in Devonshire England. The town is located on the western side of Malpeque Bay. The nearby Lennox Island first nations reservation was designated by treaty in 1876, after PEI entered Confederation.
Annual Events
The museum hosts annual events including Canada Day; Seniors’ Garden Party, July 13; Concert on the Green, July 21 and Aug 11; Kid’s Day, July 31; Blueberry Social, Aug 18. Weekly events: Tuesday Evening Kitchen Chatters, Thursday Evening Sea Shanties or Ghost Stories, and Look Back and Learn, a children’s program every Mon, Wed and Fri afternoon.

The museum includes an interpretive centre which traces the history of shipbuilding during the 1800s. Includes a recreated shipyard and the restored Victorian residence of ship owner James Yeo Jr. Gift shop on site. Open June-Sept, daily. Admission charged. Children 12 and under and PEI Museum members admitted free, except for special events. Group and school tour rates available.
