Carstairs was named for Carstairs, Scotland (in Lanarkshire, southeast of Glasgow). Carstairs is a growing town along the Calgary-Edmonton corridor, often used as a traveller’s shortcut to bypass Calgary (through the Carstairs/Cremona/Cochrane) to Banff. The economy of the Carstairs area is a mix of oil & gas and agriculture.
