Cremona, at the intersection of Highway 22 and 580, is part a scenic by-pass around Calgary to Banff. Cremona, the “Village With Promise,” began as a settlement when a post office was opened in 1906. Cremona was named for the Violin Village, which lies on the Po River northwest of Bologan, in Italy. This mixed farming community officially became a village in 1955 and now has over 400 residents. To the west of the village is hilly terrain mostly covered with spruce and pine. The Little Red Deer River passes through the area, providing several recreation sites ideal for camping, fishing and hiking.
